Jerry's Story -- July 2008

Jerry Wolfe

The highlights of the voyage along the Amazon were the people and their lives. Visiting floating homes gave incite into the hard life along the river living day to day, depending upon fishing or farming. Two of the many visits are as follows:

One home had three cousins living together and after explaining the gospel via the E-Cube; all three accepted Christ. What a joy to experience.

Another visit started on a fishing boat with six men. Five of the men indicated they were Christians; but one brother said he "wanted to wait". We went from the boat to the man's grandparent's home on shore. What a time of fellowship with fellow Christians. Both the grandfather and grandmother were in their 90's but devout Christians who had started a church in a near by village years ago. It was obvious by his conversation that he prayed and read his Bible daily. The grandson who said "wait"; was there and heard all we discussed, so I feel he will eventually receive Christ.

The entire trip was a wonderful experience and encouraging to see Christians along the river, obviously some had come before us and planted seeds. A concern is the many unsaved, those who say WAIT, some who say "I'm not good enough - drink and smoke"; so we must continue or prayer and evangelism efforts.

God worked in a wonderful way the entire week, drawing the team together, leading us to specific homes or places to show folks how to receive Christ, good health, safety, excellent "care and feeding" from our hosts and the wonderful fellowship with our "brothers in Christ". Our lives will not be the same after this trip. A special THANK YOU to Derek and those who created the opportunity to minister to the Brazilian people along the Amazon.
