“There were many neat experiences on my trip into the Amazon with AVM... but one that stands out was an afternoon during our "door to door" ministry when we came upon one of the many isolated, flooded homes along the river, and when the people found out we were sharing the Gospel, they were very excited to tell us they were Christians... but that they wanted us to come in and pray with them because the Grandmother of the house had fallen recently and was hurt. I went over to her and asked her through the translator if it was okay for me to kneel down beside the chair she was sitting in and gently touch her leg and pray for her. She managed a half smile and nodded "yes". We prayed for a minute or two... an open prayer where many in the room joined in with words of thanks and petition. When we finished, I looked into the woman's eyes which seemed to me to have a much softer, warmer look to them... and she broke into a big smile which appeared grateful, yet wondrous. It was as if she was saying, "how great is our God -- who would send these people from half a world away right here to this home to pray for an injured, little old woman?!?" by Scott Hanson
“As I sit to write this I find it hard to express in words the blessings I have received while sharing the love of Christ with the people of the Western Amazon Basin. People just need to experience it."
"The children are wonderful! One thing I have noticed is they share and are appreciative of anything. Other than working with the children my next favorite is door to door evangelism. You always receive a warm welcome and come away blessed beyond measure. They are hungry for the good news of Jesus."
"One of my favorite memories is walking down a dried up tributary one evening, on the way to a worship service with a Brazilian pastor singing "How Great Thou Art". We weren’t able to speak each other’s language but it was pure worship to Mighty God."
"I met a Christian lady in 2007 that could not speak but learned she had recently lost a child and wanted us to take a picture of her 2 year old daughter in case she lost her too. Luckily someone brought a photo printer on the boat and we could do that for her. She was so grateful she gave us what she could, bowls made from gourds. Her faith was unwavering and drew comfort knowing she would one day see her son again."
"It is impossible to remain the same once you experience sharing Christ with this precious group of people. There are so many in this vast remote region that needs to know Jesus. The people that know Christ need to be encouraged to remain faithful and tell others. You will come home changed.” by Linda Powell
“I believe Amazon Vision Ministries is one of the most viable, exciting and aggressive mission movements of my ministerial life! It is difficult to imagine approximately 33,000 villages along the Amazon River that have never heard an evangelical witness about Jesus Christ. This is a ministry worthy of support. It is built on vision and integrity.” –Dr. John Sullivan (Executive Director-Treasurer of the Florida Baptist Convention)
“Our relationship with AVM has always been a strong one. . . we are delighted to house their offices and work in partnership with them.” –Dr. Tom Kinchen (President of the Baptist College of Florida)
