“There were many neat experiences on my trip into the Amazon with AVM... but one that stands out was an afternoon during our "door to door" ministry when we came upon one of the many isolated, flooded homes along the river, and when the people found out we were sharing the Gospel, they were very excited to tell us they were Christians...

Missing the Boat

By: Richard Jennings

In 1993 I was working as a cable technician for a small company out of Austin. I had gone to Temple to work a job with these guys Mark and Justin. Everything seemed to be going good and nothing out of the ordinary was going on when Justin asked me, “Do you believe in God?” I told him, “Yes.” He began to ask me why and what I knew about Jesus.

Joel's Testimonial

My name is Joel Shumate and I love Jesus !!!!!!! Let me explain.

I recently had the privilege to serve in a small village along the Amazon River called New Brazil. I believe I was sent on this mission trip for this purpose. How do I know that? I had signed up to go on 2 other trips and both of them did not work out and I ask God where I could go to serve and He put Brazil on my heart. The people there were so hungry for the Good News that it was a real blessing just to be there for the great harvest -John 4:35b.

The Story of Benjamin

This is a story about Benjamin, who lives in a small village, one of thousands, along the flood-swollen Amazon River. Benjamin listened politely as one member of our Mission Team (of four) from Florida explained the Gospel to his family using an Evangicube. Our translator, Marcia, had explained that we came from the "other" America to tell them about Jesus.

Jerry's Story

By Jerry Wolfe

The highlights of the voyage along the Amazon were the people and their lives. Visiting floating homes gave incite into the hard life along the river living day to day, depending upon fishing or farming. Two of the many visits are as follows: One home had three cousins living together and after explaining the gospel via the E-Cube; all three accepted Christ. What a joy to experience.

A Mission to Anama

Derek George -- AVM

In mid-May 2008 we had the privilege of spending 3 days with the precious people of São Pedro and Vila Nova Canaá, in the Municipio (County) of Anama. Our time there was incredible as we held worship, told Bible stories to the children, and conducted awesome Men's and Women's Bible studies. The children performed a drama about how Jesus calmed the stormy sea during one of the worship services. We saw over 155 decisions that week and conducted over 1000 hours of discipleship. What an awesome God we serve!

New Experiences

By Peggy Bennett

I was overjoyed when the ladies of the first village, Apuau, were excited about forming a bible study AND they volunteered to teach two of the ladies to read. They seemed to be very close knit just like a ladies group in the states. I fell in love with all the children who were so beautiful and receptive to my "shaking hugs".

Horvath Family Trips

What a Way to Start a Year! - By Andrew Horvath

My name is Andrew Horvath and I am 11 years old. One Tuesday morning in October when we were reading the Bible and my Dad had already gone to work, we started talking about a family mission trip. When Dad got home that evening, Mom told him that we had talked about taking a mission trip. Then he remembered that he had to go to a Suwannee Baptist Associational Meeting that night. When he got back home from the meeting, he had information about a family mission trip to Brazil right after Christmas.
